Concerns over a protest against Cadbury's use of palm oil were brushed aside as a traffic jam at the end of the event took centre stage instead.

Cars were backed up North Rd about 2km past Baldwin St as police and traffic management did their best to keep traffic flowing.

However, drivers appeared to remain calm and the road returned to normal shortly after.

The protesters had gathered at the bottom of Baldwin St distributing leaflets and holding placards and pictures of orang-utans, the animal which they say is threatened by the production of palm oil.

There were fears the protest would disrupt the annual fundraiser.

However, most spectators at the packed event ignored the protestors and the action had not interfered with the annaul fundraiser.

The event, at 12.30pm today, involved the release of 30,000 jaffas from the top of the world's steepest street.
