A tower crane is dismantled at the University of Otago Faculty of Dentistry’s new clinical services building project in central Dunedin at the weekend.

The mobile crane lowers the last section of the tower crane’s boom on Saturday.

The tower crane in the background is on the site of the university’s new $50 million five-storey animal research centre next door.

The new dental school building is part of a $131.6 million upgrade of the university’s School of Dentistry buildings, including a new 8000sq m clinical services building, with specialty and teaching clinics, a primary care unit, radiography and surgical suites.

Work on the dentistry buildings redevelopment has gone over budget by almost $2 million, with $46.5 million spent on it during the past year, because work had progressed more quickly than expected.
