Charges likely after crash

A head-on collision between two vehicles on State Highway 1 along the Henley flood-free highway left a Mosgiel man trapped and injured in his wrecked 4WD vehicle, near Waihola, last night.

A 34-year-old Singapore woman was "highly likely" to be charged in relation to the incident, once a police investigation was completed, Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said.

Emergency services were called about 7.30pm, after a rental vehicle being driven north by the woman crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming Toyota Prado.

The 4WD flipped and rolled down a bank, leaving a 53-year-old Mosgiel man trapped inside, Snr Sgt Brown said.

Police Communications spokesman Bret Watkin said an Outram fire rescue crew cut the injured man free.

He was treated by ambulance staff at the scene and taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries.

The female driver and male passenger were taken to Dunedin Hospital with minor injuries.

SH1 was closed for a short time about 9pm when the vehicles were removed.
