Bus fares in Dunedin are to rise by five percent.
The increase kicks in on July 1, Newstalk ZB reports today.
It has been approved by Otago Regional Council's finance and corporate services committee and will go to the full council for ratification next week.
Regional Council chairman Stephen Woodhead says the increase is as low as possible, given steadily rising costs.
He says the last increase, apart from the GST adjustment, was three years ago.
