Cleaning company in liquidation

Southern Cleaning Services was placed in liquidation by Associate Judge Rob Osborne in the High Court at Dunedin on Monday.

The application was made by Compass Group New Zealand, of Auckland, which claimed it was owed $60,514.56.

The Christchurch law firm acting for Compass was represented at the hearing by Dunedin lawyer Malcolm Couling.

Mr Couling told the Otago Daily Times yesterday no-one representing Southern Cleaning Services appeared at the hearing.

The company was bought in 2006 by Broadbat Ltd, a Wellington company owned by Greg Thomas.

At the time it had 175 employees.

The Otago Daily Times understands Broadbat is now also in liquidation.

The Labour Department in Wellington has been pursuing Mr Thomas for wages owed to staff at the time the company ceased trading last year.

A spokesman said yesterday Mr Thomas had yet to be located.

The Official Assignee will now determine how any remaining company assets are distributed.
