An SUV is driven through a field of foam on Tomahawk Beach in Dunedin yesterday. The foam has been whipped up by perigee tides and strong winds off Dunedin's coast over the past few days.

The waves that churned up the decaying organic matter that make up the sea foam have also led to concerns about the damaged sea wall at St Clair, with particular worries about yesterday's king tide. King tides are the highest in a perigee tide series.

Dunedin City Council road maintenance engineer Peter Standring said last night regular monitoring yesterday and during the past few days had shown the wall was holding up well.
