Dunedin city councillor Benedict Ong is set to have a follow-up meeting with senior council staff over his debt financing proposal.

A preliminary meeting was held on Tuesday and it was described by Dunedin City Council chief executive Sandy Graham as a useful initial discussion.

This included answering Cr Ong’s questions and hearing from him, she said.

However, there is continuing disagreement about where he should make his final presentation.

Ms Graham said there were no plans for a public workshop.

‘‘A follow-up meeting is planned so that Cr Ong can test his presentation in detail with staff, prior to presenting in the public part of the finance and performance committee should he choose to take up this opportunity.’’

Cr Ong said he wanted a public workshop, ‘‘so that I can speak without any encumbrances’’.
