Three businesses have made the short list to provide the Dunedin City Council’s revamped kerbside rubbish and recycling service from next year.
A contract is expected to be awarded in late April or May this year.
The service from July next year includes collection of food scraps and, for ratepayers who opt in, collection of garden waste.
Bins, rather than rubbish bags, will be used for the council’s kerbside collection of general waste. Recycling bins and crates for glass will continue to be used.
The contractor will also be responsible for emptying litter bins across the city.
The council also plans to develop what it calls the Green Island resource recovery park precinct.
Building a new organics processing facility is considered a priority.
