Drivers can expect disruptions while sections of Portobello Rd are resealed this month, the Dunedin City Council says.

Council roading maintenance engineer Peter Standring said he was not sure how long the work would take but travellers could expect delays.

"There won't be a full road closure. It will be done one section at a time.

"There will be disruptions but as soon as the seal is down, it will be good to drive over.''

Traffic would be restricted to one lane while each side of the road was resealed, Mr Standring said.

It was not known how much of the road would be resealed.

"There will be slow traffic until it [the seal] settles down. It takes a wee while for vehicles to roll the chips in.

"Having traffic on it is important.''

The dry summer months provided an opportunity for contractors to complete all the council's capital and reseal work, Mr Standring said.

"The guys will be flat out trying to get all that work done while the weather's good enough.''
