The stone carver and jeweller was named the recipient of ``Dame Doreen's Gift'' at a ceremony in Auckland at the weekend. The award is from The Blumhardt Foundation - a trust set up to further the aims of the late potter and educator Dame Doreen Blumhardt.
Foundation chairwoman Kaye McKinlay said the $8000 award recognised an artist who had established themselves and had plenty of career potential.
The ``respected artist'' was selected because he had an international exhibition track record and was recognised for developing a new approach to stone carving.
Mr McIntosh said the award came at a good time.
``It is enabling me to move forward with projects in a way that would not have been possible without the freedom this gives to invest both time and resources.''
