Roslyn flatmates Emma Diamond (27), an Otago Rugby administrator, and Courtney Mackay (25), an interior designer, came second in the renovation-reality show after a live auction in Auckland last night.
The townhouse they renovated in 11 weeks in the Auckland suburb of Meadowbank sold for $1.51 million, $300,000 over the reserve.
Miss Mackay, the fiance of Highlander loose forward Joe Wheeler, said she and Miss Diamond were underdogs in the competition and she was "in shock" from the auction result.
Last week, the pair told the Otago Daily Times of their intentions to start a fashion and homeware business in Dunedin if they made a profit, Miss Mackay said.
Wellington flatmates Sam Cable, a business development manager, and Emmett Vallender, an HR adviser, were the competition winners, taking home $480,000 after their three-bedroom townhouse sold for $1.61 million, $380,000 over the reserve, making them the team with the highest profit in the show’s history.
The men get to keep the profit and a $100,000 prize for coming first, taking their total winnings to $480,000.
Tauranga builders Dylan Cossey and Dylan Guitink, came third, selling their property for $1.341 million, a profit of $151,000.
Christchurch-based forensic analyst Niki Osborne and Tiff Mair, a TV set designer based in Melbourne but originally from Wanaka, sold their home for $1.32 million, a profit of $150,000.
Show host Mark Richardson revealed the show would be back for a sixth season next year.
