Dunedin police looking for knicker nicker

Police are looking for a central city knicker nicker after more than a dozen pairs of woman's underwear were stolen from a Dunedin flat.

The burglar took 16 pairs of underwear and five bottles of perfume from the rooms of the flat which was occupied by four young women, Senior Sergeant Liz Waru said today.

The burglary happened sometime between September 29 and October 14, and came to the flatmates' attention when they noticed the perfume was missing.

"They said nothing like this has happened before,'' Snr Sgt Waru said.

"They have scaffolding around the place so think the offender might have gained entry that way.''

Police called on central city residents to be alert, lock their houses and report anything suspicious.

Anyone with information that can help should contact Dunedin police on 471-4800. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
