Greta Mutch (8) prepares to farewell her ''anti-bullying tree'' in Opoho Park, Dunedin.
The festooned macrocarpa has attracted much attention and has been a source of comfort for many.
As it is near stumps being ripped out by the Dunedin City Council, the family are moving the tree's decorations to a tree at a safe distance from the work.
Initially, Greta started to decorate the tree to mark her sadness because her grandmother was unwell, but later added an anti-bullying message.
Almost all of the decorations were brought by strangers.
Greta's mother, Donna Mutch, had been surprised by how many people decorated the tree over the past six months.
Many had left messages in a guest-book and made wishes. The family will remove the decorations this weekend.
