A father and son hunting for a Mosgiel resident armed with baseball bats allegedly resorted to smashing up the person's car.

The 43-year-old and 15-year-old showed up at the victim's property in Stirling St, Mosgiel at about 8pm last night with a third person, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said.

They went into the home but could not locate the person they were looking for.

Instead, they headed back outside and the father and son allegedly started to smash up the victim's car with their bats.

Police were called and arrested the pair.

Both were charged with wilful damage and would appear in Dunedin District Court, and Dunedin Youth Court at a later date.
