Fears for taggers if caught

The sight of sexually explicit words and genitalia drawn in bright orange paint on Mosgiel property is angering residents so much that Mosgiel police fear for the safety of the culprits.

Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said residents in Gladstone Rd North, Joe Brown Ave and Irwin Logan Dr were hit with another spate of graffiti at the weekend, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to cars, caravans, fences, letterboxes and footpaths.

"It's quite frustrating for the residents as well as us, in that this would be the third incident we've had over the space of about a month.

"The concern I have is not only the offending. If the culprit was to be caught by the owner of the property, what would happen?

"The people of Mosgiel are getting very angry about this."

An Irwin Logan Dr resident, who declined to be named, said they were lucky they discovered the graffiti soon after it happened.

"Our letterbox got tagged.

"Luckily for us, it wiped off straight away. But for others...

"They are damaging $700,000 properties. People are pretty angry.

"These people should consider what we will do to them if we catch them," she said.

Snr Sgt Lloyd said the damage was extensive and indiscriminate.

"We're assuming it's youths because of the nature of what they've done. But we're keeping an open mind."

He asked residents with any information about the incidents to contact Mosgiel police.
