The St Kilda fire station will be making do with plywood doors until February after its roller door was damaged by one of its fire trucks.
Senior Station Officer Ben Pitelen said it appeared a truck had caught the bottom of the door as it left the station and the door was beyond repair.
It would cost about $30,000 to buy a new one, he said.
"I'm not sure exactly how it happened. Sometimes the doors go up, then come back down a bit.
"It's a bit more inconvenient having to open and shut it each time we go out, but it doesn't slow us down too much.''
Because of the upcoming holiday period, a new door would not be available until February, he said.
The damage happened about two weeks ago.
