A bar with beer on tap, a large flat-screen TV, a few comfy bar stools, a dart board, and some tri-folding windows to create an indoor/outdoor flow — what more could a bloke want in a man cave?
Former All Black Stephen Donald reckons not much, and he should know.
Donald has designed what is his ideal "basic and blokey" man cave, and Placemakers, Cooke Howlison and Otago Polytechnic pre-trade carpentry course teachers and students have put in the supplies, transport and hard labour to make it a reality.
It will go up for auction on Sunday at 2pm alongside a she shed designed by fashion designer Tanya Carlson, as part of the Great Kiwi Home and Living Show at Forsyth Barr Stadium this weekend.
Each celebrity was given a fixed budget of $10,000 to turn their 3.9m by 2.4m sheds into places that reflect their individuality.
Proceeds from the auctions will go to charity — the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation for Ms Carlson, and the New Zealand Movember Foundation for Mr Donald.
Placemakers Dunedin and Mosgiel branch operator Justin Macready said the sheds were built to a very high standard, and could fetch up to $20,000 in the auction.
"Fundamentally, whoever gets it is going to get an amazing piece of Dunedin history.
"You’ve got two iconic New Zealanders who have created two very different designs, so whether you’re looking for a man cave or a she shed, you won’t find anything better."
The show was being run in a partnership between Dunedin Venues and the Otago Daily Times.
