Four-year-old approached by man in Dunedin park

A four-year-old girl was approached by a man aged between 50 to 60-years-old in a Dunedin park.

At Ocean Grove Park, the man was seen by the girl's parents speaking to and patting her on the head on Wednesday at 3.30pm.

Sergeant Anthony Bond said he was described as Caucasian, of medium build and height and was unshaven.

He had two small dogs with him.

Parents saw the male communicating with their daughter and confronted him.

He did not communicate with them but left the park.

The parents of the girl were concerned enough to contact police, Sgt Bond said.

Police advised anyone who may have seen anything to contact them.

While reading this article over and over, I can't help but think that this 50 to 60 year old man might be reminiscing his past existence. I can only guess what made him "approach" the girl and why he left after being confronted by the parents.
There are no words written in the article pointing towards serious inappropriate touching apart from a pat on the head.
Perhaps he sat on the park bench just letting his dogs out and feeling very lonely. Unfortunately there are a lot of old people left very lonely. He sits there with his two dogs and then a wee four year old comes along....
What do you do? Confront her and tell her to go away and leave the 2 dogs alone?
Or approach her and show her that patting his dogs on the head is okay. I leave this with you........
I found this article poorly written and left open for all sorts of different scenarios.
