A police officer got the seal of disapproval yesterday during an unusual case of road rage.
He was called away from marshalling homecoming Easter traffic to deal with a stroppy customer on State Highway 1 2km south of Moeraki at 5pm.
The officer arrived at the scene to find a seal in ``long, thick grass'' a couple of metres from the highway.
It was not keen to return to its natural habitat.
``As he tried to direct the seal back to the beach it charged towards him, but stayed in the grass,'' a police spokeswoman said.
Backup was called.
``A second officer arrived and, despite the seal charging at the officers again, they were able to direct the seal back over the bank and into the sea,'' she said.
The Department of Conservation was informed.
There was no disruption to traffic.
