Maran-atha Home, in Mosgiel, marked its 50th year yesterday with celebration and praise.
Residents, family and friends, and current and former staff all came together for a special afternoon tea, with music.
Maran-atha Fellowship Trust committee member John Bradley said the home was established in 1959 by "a group of Dunedin church folk".
It was begun as a way to serve the Lord, he said, and over the years the home had survived on donations of money and work and was an example of the Church looking after its people.
"We've run on a shoestring, but the shoestring has always been long enough," Mr Bradley said.
About 40 people lived in the complex, which consisted of a main house, 10 apartments and two staff homes.
