An generous blast from the past is helping patients at the Dunedin Hospital children’s ward.

A group of enthusiasts who like to dress up in Victorian and Edwardian clothing gave $500 to the children’s ward last Thursday, to buy items for its play room.

The Images from the Past group, which has 15 members, raised the funds through hosting fashion shows.

Group member Lorraine Clark said they did it because they loved to dress up.

‘‘We get to do what we love and raise money for people at the same time.’’

Hospital play specialist Jackie Christos said they were always grateful as the donations allowed them to buy things they otherwise would not be able to.

‘‘It will go towards buying new books to replace old ones . . .

‘‘We go through a lot of books and it’s great for parents and caregivers to read to their children.’’

Over the past nine years, the Images of the Past group had raised more than $5000 for the children’s ward.
