Harassment 'despicable'

Police are disgusted at the harassment of an itinerant Dunedin woman.

The woman was sitting in the grounds of the All Saints Anglican Church, in North Dunedin, about midnight on Saturday when she was accosted by a group of three males who grabbed her bag and threw it around, Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said.

The trio, believed to be young students, were spotted by police in a passing patrol car, but had disappeared by the time the officers circled back, Snr Sgt Aitken said.

The woman was "upset" but not harmed.

"It's pretty disturbing that young people find the need to harass someone who's obviously less fortunate than they are.

"I just felt it was really despicable," Snr Sgt Aitken said.
