Two people were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition after a ute rolled in a remote area near Lake Hāwea on Thursday.
A police spokeswoman said the ute rolled along the Grandview Mountain Track, near the intersection of Nook and Hawea Back Rds.
Two people were taken to hospital via helicopter, she said.
A Hato Hone St John spokeswoman said they were notified of the incident about 7.30pm.
One ambulance and two helicopters responded.
The two people airlifted were both in a serious condition, she said.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said crews from the Lake Hāwea and Wānaka stations went to the scene, and helped other emergency services access the site where the ute rolled.
The crash occurred in a remote area and fire trucks could not get access. They ended up using another smaller 4WD vehicle to get to the area.
They assisted a person back down the track and left the scene.
