About 400 people took the chance to tour some of Dunedin's historic homes yesterday.
The annual Heritage Homes of Dunedin open day, organised by the Cargill's Castle Charitable Trust, was held as part of the Dunedin Heritage Festival.
Those who took part were shown through seven Dunedin homes, including Glendinning House, in Roslyn, and Prestwick House, in Maori Hill, as well as one modern home "just to throw people out a bit", trustee Graham Johnston said.
Yesterday's tour was the 12th and, while numbers were down slightly on last year, the trust remained happy with the event's popularity, he said.
"We have got a formula we do and it works pretty well."
The 400 people who joined the tour - each paying $30 - helped raise "more than $5000" in profit which would go towards the ongoing maintenance costs of Cargill's Castle (pictured), as well as planned stabilisation work and a new walking track at the Highgrove, Dunedin site, he said.
