The wood choppers are coming out to back the rescue choppers.

An army of volunteers is hoping money does grow on trees at a firewood fundraiser for the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter Trust next weekend.

At least 1000 tonnes of cut-price radiata pine will be on sale at the Wenita Forestry Products plantation at Mt Allan.

''Everyone's donating their time for the rescue helicopter,'' Wenita commercial manager Anne Horsewood said yesterday.

''All the helicopter paramedics and Wenita staff and contractors are going to be there helping out on the day. If we have the weather we've had lately, it's going to be a fantastic day.''

A similar sale in 2010 sale netted about $3000 for the rescue helicopter.

Intensive care paramedic Anthony Hoets plans to put in a couple of hours after his night shift next Saturday.

The firewood will be available at three Mt Allan sites, to expedite pick-up and turnaround times, from 8am-4pm next Sunday. The sale is pick-up only and no chainsaws are allowed.

Prices are $20 for a single-axle trailer, $30 for a double-axle trailer and $50 for a truck, with all proceeds going to the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter Trust.

The location will be signposted from Salisbury Rd and maps are available from the Wenita Forest Products office in Mosgiel.
