Interest in home show runs high

Stalls at Dunedin’s inaugural Great Kiwi Home & Living Show at Forsyth Barr Stadium are selling like Auckland real estate, organisers say.

The event, run in partnership between Dunedin Venues and the Otago Daily Times, will be held on November 5-6, and Allied Press commercial manager Matthew Holdridge said he had been inundated by calls from businesses wanting to buy  sites at the event.

He said 150 sites had been made available at the stadium for exhibitors, and  about 90  had been filled.

"The majority of them are all local businesses.

"We’ve got kitchen companies, we’ve got house builders, we’ve got outdoor living, we’ve got garden — we’ve got a good spread."

Mr Holdridge said the event could bring millions of dollars to the local economy.

"It’s going to be really positive for the city.

"At the end of the day, it’s about providing as much of Otago and Southland with an opportunity to come and see what the best products are that they can buy — whether it’s in the home, outside the home, going on holiday ... "

He said stallholders would make the most of the 8000 to 10,000 people expected to attend.

"It’s an opportunity for businesses to not just build their brand but also engage and sell stuff."

The exhibition categories are biking, boating, food and wine, gardening, the great outdoors, health and fitness, homes, motoring, outdoor living, and travel and recreation.

The show will  feature celebrity  speakers, luxury vehicles, a large area for children,  cooking demonstrations and bands.

Mr Holdridge hoped that all 150 sites would be filled by the end of August.
