A pair of passengers on an adults-only cruise ship which visited Dunedin yesterday for the first time say it is easy to forget children exist.

None of the passengers on Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady is under 18 years old.

Passengers Jess Barker and Abbey Lobsinger, of Brisbane, said the cruise was all about making friends.

"If you’re a solo traveller it has solo traveller meet-ups, so that you can make friends with people that are also on their own," Miss Barker said.

She said she liked making friends from other places.

There were plenty of ways to meet new people, including group dining sessions, she said; however, she was there to eat and sit in the hot tub.

Miss Lobsinger said it was great there were no children on board and it was easy to forget they existed.

"We got off in Wellington and you saw a bunch of kids and I was like ‘Oh s..., haven’t seen one of those in a while’."

The pair were on board for 12 nights and 13 days and were looking forward to the ship’s entertainment, including painting workshops, posture workshops and wine tasting.

The ship has a capacity for 2700 passengers and 1150 crew and left port just after 5pm yesterday, bound for Fiordland.
