Man in hospital after early morning assault in Dunedin

A man is in Dunedin Hospital after being seriously assaulted in the city centre this morning.

A police spokewoman said the man was allegedly set upon by a group of people in George St, near the Octagon, about 2.30am.

‘‘By the time we [police] got there, the offenders had fled the scene.

‘‘The person was transported to hospital and we will be continuing to make inquiries,’’ she said.
