A man is likely to face charges following a police callout after a man was shot with an air pistol in Waikouaiti.
Senior Sergeant James Ure, of Dunedin, said a man received a welt to his abdomen following the incident at 2pm on Saturday. The injury was not thought to be serious.
However, police from Palmerston, Oamaru and Dunedin were called, and later in the afternoon officers were speaking to the man believed to be responsible.
Sgt Ure said police were taking the incident seriously, as air guns could be potentially dangerous weapons.
This was shown when Sgt Don Wilkinson died after he was shot with a FX Monsoon air gun while on a undercover drugs operation in Auckland in 2008.
"Obviously this might be a shorter version, but clearly they have got a dangerous element," Sgt Ure said.
