Dark clouds rolled in early, but failed to dampen spirits at Mosgiel Community Market Day.

In typical spring fashion, the rain arrived not long after the event began on Saturday morning, but just as people had finished moving their stalls under cover, the sun was out again.

Half-an-hour later, it was if the rain had never come, with hundreds of people perusing the stalls on Gordon Rd and the once wet and slippery bouncy castles dry enough for giggling children to use.

After the minor hitch with the weather, stallholders got on with selling their wares, which included everything from antiques to bacon butties.

Jenny Harris, who came along with her son Jesse (23 months), said it was a great chance to get involved in the community, having recently moved to Mosgiel ''It's just great,'' Ms Harris said.

She came in early in the day, but planned to come back again in the afternoon.
