Two men who chased an alleged burglar in St Clair, Dunedin, on Saturday afternoon may face charges, police say.
The men, one on foot carrying a golf club, and the other in a 4WD vehicle, chased the alleged offender from where he entered a Bedford St garage, along the Esplanade and a short distance along Forbury Rd just after 1pm.
Police arrived minutes later and arrested the man, aged in his early 20s, at the intersection of Forbury Rd and Victoria Rd.
He was charged with unlawfully entering a building and will appear in the Dunedin District Court this week.
Constable Keith Braithwaite, of South Dunedin, said the Esplanade was busy when the group passed through it and police had received several complaints about the chase.
The people giving chase should have followed in a safe manner and waited for the police to arrive, he said.
Police were still considering whether they would be charged.
