Coffee and ice creams could be on sale again at Dunedin's Marlow Park after the city council agreed to grant a lease for a new mini golf course operator at the St Kilda park.
The community development committee yesterday agreed to grant a new lease to Happy Days Ltd, which will take over the Happy Days Fun Park at Marlow Park.
As part of the agreement, the owner intends to make improvements, including replacing the front fence and upgrading the rest of the fencing, putting up new signs, upgrading the greens on the mini golf course, refitting the kiosk to sell coffee, ice cream and perhaps packaged food, adding outdoor tables and chairs on the existing deck and enhancing the landscaping.
The lease gives the council the ability to terminate with a notice period of 12 months if the area is required for coastal protection.
A report to councillors noted that the proposal to sell coffee and ice cream would fill a gap left by the removal of the Noah's Ark tearooms at Marlow Park in 2010.
It said the mini golf area had become "shabby and uncared for" and the proposed improvements would significantly enhance the area.
Being able to buy ice cream and coffee should also have a positive effect by encouraging people to come and stay at the park longer.
