The sometimes disappointing swings and roundabouts of contestable funding have turned in the Otago Museum’s favour, through gaining three Government grants totalling $200,000.
Included is a $30,000 grant to help lift the confidence and leadership of female school pupils, aged 10 to 15, in science, technology and mathematics.
In recent years the museum has enjoyed considerable success in attracting contestable funding through the Government’s Unlocking Curious Minds Fund.
However, the museum attracted none of this funding in 2017, bouncing back in a modest way in 2018 by gaining $75,000 from the fund.
In the latest funding round, the museum’s biggest single gain was $150,000 to support a proposed ‘‘Far From Frozen II: Going to Extremes’’—an updated version of its earlier popular, home-grown ‘‘Far From Frozen’’ exhibition, through partnerships, including with the University of Otago and Victoria University of Wellington.
