Dunedin-based Natural History New Zealand was granted exclusive access to a museum in China for a just-completed documentary on the terracotta warriors.
Filming on the Secrets of the Ghost Army has just been completed by the company, which was the first television production company granted access to the terracotta warrior museum in Xian, China.
The documentary aims to solve the mystery of how the estimated 8000 warriors were built, and what challenges their makers faced.
Managing director Michael Stedman said the company had earned respect and trust after working on productions in China for more than a decade, and this was reflected in the unprecedented access to the museum.
"Our willingness to build lasting relationships means we have gone on to become the largest Western producer of documentaries about China for the international market," he said.
A co-production between NHNZ, National Geographic Channels International and Thirteen WNET, the documentary was also filmed in New Zealand, the United States and Germany.
