No injuries after SUV hits parked cars

Dunedin's George St was partly blocked this afternoon after an SUV ploughed into three parked vehicles.

Two fire engines were present at the scene along with police and St John.

Initially emergency services thought the callout was a fire, due to the airbags bursting and a talcum powder-like substance being dispersed through the air.

Station officer Mark Townsend said St John had been called as a precaution but no-one was hurt and it was still unclear why the woman driving the SUV had hit the parked vehicles.

The SUV and the first parked car were badly damaged, and a truck had been pushed up onto the footpath.

Witnesses Nathan Parry and Anthony Sullivan said they were sitting having smoko nearby when the accident happened and they helped the woman out of her vehicle.

She seemed "shaken'' by the incident.
