Waverley resident Hunter Wight was up at 3am yesterday running an 800m loop around Rotary Park for 28km because it was November 28.
Today, he will be running 29km.
Tomorrow it will be 30km.
The 41-year-old set the challenge to run 465km by the end of the month in addition to growing his moustache for Movember.
He said the reason behind it was to show running was a healthy outlet for mental health-related issues.
"I find that doing these sort of physical challenges and just running and getting out there is something that keeps me on an even keel. It provides balance in my life.
"It's always good thinking time out there and you can sort of think through any problems you might be facing.
"It sometimes gives you a different perspective."
Mr Wight was no stranger to running challenges, having completed 36 hours in the Best Dam Backyard Ultra in Otematata in May.
However, running in an 800m loop presented a different kind of challenge in that it was quite monotonous.
Each day got harder, and recovery was a massive factor.
He said his legs were "hanging in there", but he did not want to count his chickens.
He completed his runs so early in the morning in order to spend the rest of the morning with his children.
So far, Mr Wight had raised about $1500, smashing his target of $1000.
