A speeding Dunedin teenager was pepper-sprayed after allegedly becoming ‘‘aggressive and confrontational’’ with police.
Police were on patrol when they observed a vehicle on Outram-Mosgiel Rd travelling at 130kmh on Saturday, Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said.
They went to stop the vehicle but it turned into a nearby driveway.
Behind the wheel was a 19-year-old man who was ‘‘aggressive and confrontational’’ with the attending officer, Sgt Lee said.
‘‘He was advised he was under arrest and pepper spray was deployed due to him resisting.’’
The man was bailed to appear in the Dunedin District Court at a later date, charged with driving while suspended.
He received a formal warning for resisting police.
Police were also patrolling Main Rd, Fairfield, at about 2.15pm on Friday.
A vehicle in front of them accelerated heavily, Sgt Matt Lee said.
"The vehicle turned onto the motorway and was weaving through traffic at excessive speed."
It allegedly failed to stop when police activated their red and blue lights.
The vehicle was not pursued, but officers spotted it exiting the motorway via the Abbotsford off-ramp.
Members of the public pointed police to where it had stopped in Pottinger St, and the 23-year-old male driver was arrested on a nearby street.
The man was bailed to appear in the Dunedin District Court at a later date, charged with failing to stop for red and blue lights, driving while suspended, unlawfully possessing ammunition and a historic theft matter.
