Ruby Smaill (4), of Outram, can’t slide  to the bottom of this hill at  Memorial Park, Mosgiel as the yellow slide that once carried children down  the slope  has not yet been replaced.

Dunedin City Council parks and recreation manager Jendi Paterson said the piece of playground equipment was broken in April and removed soon afterwards.

‘‘Our understanding is the damage was caused by people stamping on the slide which caused it to split. Continued rough treatment meant repairs could not hold.’’

The council had playground improvements to make in other areas first, but the slide was scheduled to be replaced next year, she said.

The council did not know the cost of the replacement yet.
