A fallen macrocarpa tree led to the closure of Harington Point Rd for a period of time earlier today.

The Portobello Fire Brigade was called to the scene after the tree fell on to the road due to high winds which hit Dunedin in the afternoon.

The tree toppled near the Otakou golf course, believed to be about 3.45pm.

The road was reopened just after 4.30pm.

No one was believed to be injured.
