Not guilty plea over alleged sex abduction

Two men accused of abducting a woman for sex last October have both denied the allegation.

Joseph Warren Lepper (36), of Motueka, appeared before Judge Stephen Coyle in the Dunedin District Court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawfully detaining a woman without her consent with intent to have sexual intercourse with her.

Lepper is jointly charged with Zane Alexander McVeigh (17) who has already pleaded not guilty and elected trial by jury.

Both are charged with committing the offence in Dunedin on October 19 last year.

Lepper has been in custody since his arrest and, in November, was remanded for a mental health report.

He was yesterday remanded to March 5 for a case review hearing.

McVeigh has been on bail in the North Island and has a pre-trial callover on March 19.
