Anna, a sub-editor for the Otago Daily Times, has written the Chinn-Wag 'Sub-culture' blog since June 2008.
A vocal presence in the subbery, Anna brings the same wit and vivid intelligence to her blog which skips nimbly across a bewildering range of topics from week to week.
Last year she came into her own as a media force in Dunedin, notably using her sideways look at local issues to pry policy statements out of Dunedin City Council candidates.
Anna posed the questions and candidates and readers queued up to comment on her blog in the run-up to Dunedin's charged local body election.
She also shone a light on two of Dunedin's more controversial issues - the new stadium and the wisdom teeth art installation beside Otago Harbour - by comparing the city's attitudes to them to the tumour found lodged in a famous tuatara's nether-regions. Yes, she did. And it made such perfect sense many other observers wondered why they hadn't thought of it.
In between Anna has entertained ODT readers with her deft observations on everything from banana bread to the haiku of shopping lists.
The fact she has grown her audience five-fold since her blog launched speaks for itself, and while she is never afraid of wading straight into the deep-end in the hope of making readers think she never forgets to also make them laugh.
