Who will lead the Otago Regional Council for the next three years will be decided at the inaugural meeting of the council on Tuesday.
It will be the first official meeting for the council's two newest members, Dunstan representatives Graeme Bell and Gary Kelliher, who will join the 10 other re-elected councillors for the term.
Their inaugural meeting will be chaired by chief executive Peter Bodeker and begin with councillors taking a declaration under the Local Government Act.
Once sworn in, their first job will be to elect a chairman. Stephen Woodhead, last term's chairman, has indicated he would take the job if it was in the best interests of council.
The deputy chairman would then be elected.
Last term's deputy, David Shepherd, had stated he did not want the job again and there was speculation Gretchen Robertson might be keen to take up the role.
Councillors met earlier this week for an informal chat about roles in the new council.
The structure of the council's committees and who would chair them would be decided at the council's next meeting on November 6.
