The Otago Regional Council is eyeing the car park of Forsyth Barr Stadium as a potential headquarters site.

However, both it and the Dunedin City Council, which owns the site, are silent on the matter.

The Otago Daily Times understands the city council approached the regional council about the area east of the stadium possibly being used for its long sought-after new base.

Dunedin Venues chief executive Terry Davies confirmed it was aware of the discussions, but that they were ''at a very early stage''.

The company would ''always consider viable commercial opportunities should they arise''.

The regional council is in the early stages of assessing the viability of the location.

Staff and regional councillors discussed the feasibility of the site in a public-excluded workshop last week.

Councillors contacted by the Otago Daily Times yesterday would not talk about the idea, citing confidentiality.

It is understood there is the potential for development to have a limited impact on car parking.

Council chairman Stephen Woodhead said he had no comment on the matter.

Regional council chief executive Sarah Gardner said the council was continuing to look at its options.

''As per normal, these talks are held in confidence.''

City council chief executive Sue Bidrose also declined to comment and Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull said he was unaware of the discussions.

The ORC should consider where their employees want to work and how they are going to get there. If the ORC wants a good sustainable work force they ought to consider people ahead of cheap land and back scratchings.

Oh, fantastic!!!
Another great idea !!!
Another million down the drain !!!
Obviously they don’t take predicted ‘sea level rise’ seriously, when it comes to their projects, just everyone else’s.
The hypocrisy of local and national government, speaks louder than their preaching.
