A high school student, who was cycling, was badly shaken after he was grabbed by a passenger in a passing car and then shoved on to the road.

Police attended the incident which took place at John Wilson Ocean Dr earlier this month.

King’s High School rector Nick McIvor said a vehicle drove past the group of boys as they cycled on the road, on May 6.

The vehicle turned around and came back by the group.

One of the King’s students was grabbed by a person leaning out a passenger window from the passing car.

He was then shoved off his bike by this vehicle passenger and fell on to the road, receiving some cuts, bruising, and a hurt wrist.

He was immediately given medical support before being taken back to the King’s sick bay.

He was then checked at hospital after being collected by his parent. Thankfully no bones were broken, Mr McIvor said.

Mr McIvor said there was some shouting from the car but no words exchanged.

It was unclear if the King’s students knew any of the occupants of the car.

‘‘This young man was rattled and shaken by the experience,’’ Mr McIvor said.

As well as looking after their student, the school notified the police straight away and provided a description and photo of the car so they could follow it up.

A police spokesperson said they had been alerted to the incident and of an altercation between a group of cyclists and a vehicle. If anyone had more information contact police through the 105 service, quoting file number 260507/6488.
