All trails lead to Outram when the township acts as the finishing post for the 25th annual Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust's Cavalcade.
Outram is counting down to the 25th Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust Cavalcade in Outram in February.
Nine different trails will all converge on Outram on Saturday, February 28, to celebrate their week spent in the hills covering some of the historic trails used during the golden era of Otago's gold rush period.
The OutWest Cavalcade Committee has been working tirelessly behind the scenes for 18 months planning the day to make it a family friendly event and one that should appeal to a wide variety of Dunedin and Otago people.
There is a full-scale gala day organised from 10am till 5pm at the Outram Domain with the annual Cavalcade Parade through the main streets of Outram at noon.
The three walking trails will lead in the four riding trails, followed by the Light Wagons and finally the Heavy Wagon trail.
The cavalcade has become so popular that numbers are now limited, with about 550 people now involved and upwards of 350 horses being used to carry or cart people over the assorted trails.
It was the only chance most people would get to see a display of this kind, linking gold rush heritage with the modern day.
Outram was once known as the launching post for those seeking to make their fortune in the Otago Goldfields.
The Gala Day will be like a large country fair with arts and craft stalls, food and coffee vendors, plenty of activities to amuse the children, including a display of motorcycle trials riding.
Entertainment includes Gough's M12 simulator, plenty of activities for kids of all ages, the Central Otago Ukulele Band, the Country and Western Music Society, a guest appearance from John Grenell, and then Georgie Daniels' band Gezz Gorge will rock the night away at the hoedown, from 7pm in a marquee.
Tickets to this private function are available to the general public.
There will also be a display by one of the Westpac Rescue Helicopters, plus helicopter rides.
There will be parking areas available close to the Outram Domain.
Formby St will be closed, to provide pedestrian access.
