A home hidden underneath a giant scaffold on the corner of Grendon St and Highgate, in Dunedin, has been revealed to all, including the owner.

The 8.9m-tall structure had been covered in weathertight plastic since June last year, helping to speed up the building of Dunedin city councillor Chris Staynes’ home.

Cr Staynes said while it was successful in doing that, he had no idea what his new home would look like.

But he was not disappointed at the big reveal.

"We could not even see the view looking out of the windows either. You just looked at the inside of the tent. So we have been able to go in it for the first time and it is just amazing."

The reveal had made him all the more excited to move in, in mid-April.

Looks like being a councillor is paying very nicely these days.

Someone is being paid too much money for seat warming at the council chambers.
