A contractor tried to do a burnout on a driveway following a long-running dispute over payment and the quality of his work, police say.
The dispute dates back to July last year when the contractor asphalted a drive in Mosgiel.
The work was not completed after a disagreement with the homeowner over the standard of the work, Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin said.
Lawyers had since become involved but the disagreement reached a peak this week when the contractor became upset over non-payment for his earlier work.
The contractor allegedly made a threatening remark before ''trying to do a burnout on the driveway''.
