A Dunedin man who allegedly stole a 43-inch TV was arrested at his home before he could start watching it, police say.

Police were made aware of the theft from The Warehouse South Dunedin at about 5.30pm yesterday.

A 51-year-old man allegedly entered the store and walked out with the TV without paying for it, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said.

It was valued at about $950.

Officers later arrested the man at his home address.

"The TV was still in its packaging."

The man was charged with theft and bailed to appear in the Dunedin District Court on Thursday, Snr Sgt Bond said.
