Police follow tips in 'Operation Tui'

Police trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of a Dunedin mother 12 years ago are investigating new information concerning the cold case.

Last Wednesday, police went public with a $50,000 reward aimed at solving the suspected homicide of Tuitania Barclay (29), who was last seen at her Wakari home on September 17, 2002.

Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis, the relieving head of the Dunedin CIB, said police had been busy investigating information from members of the public.

Detectives working on ''Operation Tui'' were reviewing about a dozen bits of information supplied by direct calls, Crimestoppers and the police Facebook page.

''They are all leads but until we work through them all we can't say whether they are major or not ... but nothing to say the body is here or there, or who did it,'' he said.

''We are still looking for that information that will take us down a positive line of inquiry.''

He confirmed there had been several ''mistaken sightings'' of Ms Barclay, with police reviewing footage from taxis for confirmation.

The mother of three was reported missing on February28, 2003, by former fiancee Bill Brown, who now lives in England with their two youngest children.

The $50,000 reward offer closes on January 1.

Anyone with information was urged to contact Detective Margo Kennedy on (03) 425-9740, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555-111.
