Police hunt Dunedin Airport jewel thief

Dunedin police are hunting a jewel thief after about $900 worth of jewellery was taken from a duty-free store at Dunedin International Airport.

Senior Sergeant Ed Baker, of Dunedin, said 12 items of jewellery were taken from the store last Friday, between 8.30am and 11am.

The alleged thief had been spotted on security cameras, and while police had a suspect, Snr Sgt Baker would not say what age, sex or nationality the person was.

Police were following a positive line of inquiry, he said.
